Media / Journalism: What does a journalist’s job entail? What is reliable information?
The 4ème and 3ème ELCE (European Language and Culture) students from the La Moraleja campus had the wonderful opportunity to welcome Sam Jones, a journalist and Madrid correspondent for The Guardian.
This semester, the 4ème students have been working on the role of the media and journalism ethics, as well as the concepts of truth and objectivity as part of an introduction to philosophy. They were able to talk with the journalist about his profession, the reliability of sources, their own relationship with current events, and the significant (and problematic) role social media plays in how teenagers access news.
The meeting with the 3ème group, who focused this semester on the theme of violence and war, centered around his experiences in conflict zones, the crucial role of war reporters, and the dangers they face. They also took the opportunity to discuss current conflicts with him, helping them gain a better understanding of the world around them.
An enriching and inspiring experience for our students, who thoroughly enjoyed interviewing Sam Jones in English!
