Middle school (“collège”, year 11-14)
At the Lycée Français de Madrid, we support each of our pupils in those key years in an environment that is demanding as well as supportive and outward-looking.
Year 7 (“Sixième” – age 11): consolidating skills and adapting
Year 7, the final year of Cycle 3, is a transition year.
Everything is done to welcome new middle school pupils and help them adapt and feel settled.
Our priorities:
- consolidating fundamental skills from primary school,
- introducing students to new subjects and work methods,
- developing their self-reliance and self-confidence.
Each student is supported to comfortably approach this new stage in their school journey.

From Year 8 to Year 10 (“Cinquième” to “Troisième” – age 11 to 15): Broadening knowledge and planning ahead
Year 8 to Year 10 (known as Cycle 4) are years of broadening knowledge and building a personal project.
Digital learning plays an important role in middle school: it encourages self-reliance, individualised learning, and new forms of knowledge.
Our pupils develop their skills in all subjects while discovering new fields of learning through various educational pathways and programmes.
Citizenship Pathway (“Parcours Citoyen”)
Arts and Cultural Education Pathway (“Parcours d’éducation artistique et culturelle”)
Health Education Pathway (“Parcours éducatif de santé”)
“Pathways for their Future” (“Parcours Avenir”), which helps them reflect on their career path.
A multilingual programme
At the Lycée Français de Madrid, languages are at the heart of our educational project.
We encourage our students to keep developing linguistic and cultural curiosity and start learning in a truly multilingual environment in middle school.
In Year 8 (“Cinquième” – age 13)
ELCE (European Language and Culture elective) in English or Latin
In Year 9 and 10 (“Quatrième and troisième” age 14 and 15)
German, Italian, Latin, ELCE (European Language and Culture elective) in English
These subjects promote cultural openness and proficiency in several languages—valuable skills in a changing world and a true asset for our students’ future success.

School Life Service (“Vie scolaire”)
The School Life Service (Vie Scolaire) is a unique feature of the French education system and has no direct equivalent in other European systems. At the LFM, middle school and high school have separate student life areas.
